Courtyard House

The Courtyard House finds opportunity within a suburban typology. Massive, emphatically articulated roofs are an icon of grand suburbia, allowing double-height cathedral spaces and additional storage while sheltering the commodity rooms assembled below with visual coherence. This project accepts its neighborhood’s stringent exterior design guidelines, leveraging a broad available footprint and  the required sloped roof to focus inward and produce sophisticated daylit spaces. Circulation paths trace the perimeter of a glazed courtyard, setting in motion a promenade architecturale to the planted roof garden concealed among the hipped roof’s high eaves.
