The renovation and addition of a formerly un-used office building provides new space for the Kent Corporation to entertain clients and visiting staff, and to conduct employee training sessions or business meetings.
The original portion of the building underwent significant structural modifications to create a large conference room with an open, airy, 2-story volume. Wooden slats reminiscent of agrarian corn cribs clad the uppermost “lantern” volume of the space helping screen acoustic panels and control natural light levels from the east and west clerestory windows. Printed glass walls with an aerial map of the Mississippi River partially enclose the room, adding privacy and referencing the company’s history of using the river for product transportation. An audio/visual consultant was engaged to ensure the space provides superior technology capabilities for a variety of presentation styles. Furniture was chosen for flexible arrangement.
Because food is an important component of the company’s culture, a large capacity catering kitchen was added with outdoor drive-up lane for loading and unloading. An outdoor patio with grill and large green space provide an opportunity for hosting outdoor events. Inside, a serving corridor located between the kitchen and large conference room allows space for luncheons and for visitors to mingle during breaks.
