I’ve lived in Iowa my whole life, moving from the family farm to progressively larger cities, and finally landing in Iowa City. While every town and city I’ve lived in has been completely different, there is a common thread of adaptability, pragmatism, and pride that thrives in Iowa. From a design perspective, it translates to an opportunity to craft meaningful and elegant work that improves the surrounding community. I enjoy working with clients who are passionate about their mission. When there is a true partnership during the design process, it enhances the work we do together.
What's an untapped passion you'd like to devote more time to?
My latest endeavor (in between the numerous home improvement projects) is tackling the bouldering wall at the rec center. While I am still very much a fledgling, I enjoy the combination of strength, skill and problem solving that is required. It’s the epitome of picking yourself up and trying again.
What's your favorite place in Iowa?
In the spring my favorite place is my backyard - with all the deer, squirrels, rabbits and birds, it's like witnessing a Disney movie beginning to unfold. ...if only they helped with the housework, too.
What do you do in your spare time?
My favorite thing to do in my time away from the office is explore – I love to travel, try new food, listen to new music or learn something new. I enjoy the possibility of stumbling across something surprising or unique and the sense of accomplishment that comes with learning a new skill.
