After damage sustained during the 2008 floods, the City hired Neumann Monson to assist in the assessment and replacement of their Public Works Facility.
FEMA and I-Jobs funding provided $24 million toward the new facility. Through extensive programming studies outlining pre-flood operational deficiencies, the City opted to build a new facility to replace the damaged existing facility. The building consolidates 14 city departments previously dispersed throughout the city. Operational and energy efficiencies were incorporated into this new facility, with the pay back on investment projected to be just 1.8 years. Through sustainable design efforts the team was able to realize $450,000 in utility rebates.
The project features departmental offices, vehicular storage for over 200 small and nearly 200 large vehicles, full-service functions, a vehicle wash bay, fleet offices and locker facilities, a carpentry and sign shop, warm and cold storage, salt storage, and a fuel island.
