Who We Are

Your Trusted Partner From Concept Through Construction

With you and your organization at the heart of our process, we provide thoughtful architectural solutions that help you reach your potential and drive positive change.

Everyone Deserves Better

At Neumann Monson, our mission is to achieve a sustainable and equitable future through design. We believe design should be beautiful, timeless, durable, and affordable. It should strengthen communities and help everyone reach their potential—because no matter the project type or budget, everyone deserves better.

An Empathetic Design Process Drives Outcomes

We take the time to engage your team, understand your values, and act on feedback. This empathetic approach has helped clients achieve high-performing, award-winning spaces and has kept our Net Promoter Score—the percentage of clients wanting to recommend us—in the top 1% of firms in our industry.

Values that Guide Our Work

We envision a future where everyone feels a sense of safety, dignity, and well-being. By doing more with less and approaching each project with empathy, we bring this vision to life. Three values guide our work:

Building Trust

Good design requires strong relationships. We work to build trust with our clients, teammates, and collaborators.

Driving Responsible Change

We advance social responsibility and environmental stewardship through design, community engagement, and advocacy.

Redefining Excellence

We challenge assumptions and raise expectations on every project we undertake—knowing excellence is a journey.

Our Legacy

Client-Focused from the Start

In 1977, Roy Neumann, Kevin Monson, Rick Caruth, and Max Miller joined forces in Iowa City. They understood the importance of a client-centered design philosophy and formed lasting partnerships from the start. Today, Neumann Monson is one of the most recognized firms in the region—and we remain grounded in our founders’ pragmatic approach.

Neumann Monson is always very responsive, organized, and detailed with all our projects.”

“We needed an architect who could really understand our vision and turn it into this physical manifestation of a building. When we first met with Neumann Monson, we really made a connection because they started the meeting by talking about values.”
