At Neumann Monson, our mission is to achieve a sustainable and equitable future through design. We believe design should be beautiful, timeless, durable, and affordable. It should strengthen communities and help everyone reach their potential—because no matter the project type or budget, everyone deserves better.
We take the time to engage your team, understand your values, and act on feedback. This empathetic approach has helped clients achieve high-performing, award-winning spaces and has kept our Net Promoter Score—the percentage of clients wanting to recommend us—in the top 1% of firms in our industry.
We envision a future where everyone feels a sense of safety, dignity, and well-being. By doing more with less and approaching each project with empathy, we bring this vision to life. Three values guide our work:
Good design requires strong relationships. We work to build trust with our clients, teammates, and collaborators.
We advance social responsibility and environmental stewardship through design, community engagement, and advocacy.
We challenge assumptions and raise expectations on every project we undertake—knowing excellence is a journey.
In 1977, Roy Neumann, Kevin Monson, Rick Caruth, and Max Miller joined forces in Iowa City. They understood the importance of a client-centered design philosophy and formed lasting partnerships from the start. Today, Neumann Monson is one of the most recognized firms in the region—and we remain grounded in our founders’ pragmatic approach.
Over the years, we’ve pushed ourselves to embrace change and become more agile. Our non-hierarchical, team-oriented structure prioritizes relationships, mentorship, excellence, and responsibility. Partnerships with mission-minded clients have led to projects that strengthen communities and meet the needs of an ever-changing world.
