Perched atop a 5-story mixed-use building, this penthouse office doubles as a social gathering venue. Flexible layouts and elegantly detailed materials infuse space with the clients’ gregarious personalities and refined tastes.
Three fully-glazed exterior walls take advantage of downtown views, with doors opening to a perimeter roof terrace. A service bar bisects the penthouse, bounding a reception and collaboration space to the north and organizing conference rooms and offices to the south. Pivoting translucent doors filter light for visual privacy.
The project’s binary palette applies dark materials to north walls and light materials to south walls. Crisp white surfaces highlight the owner’s art collection, illuminating it with diffuse daylight from the north. Perforated blackened steel, backed by acoustic felt, correspondingly activates walls to the north. Similar perforated steel panels line the private ground-level entry lobby. Here an abstracted rain drop pattern is used, backlit for kinetic effect.
