Neumann Monson Architects is a 40-year-old, award-winning architecture firm with offices in Iowa City and Des Moines. For the past quarter century, Kevin Monson led the firm’s growth and evolution. In 2018, Tim Schroeder, Vice President, stepped into the role of President as Kevin continued as Chairman of the Board. The transition, which had been in the firm’s growth blueprint for years, marked an exciting new episode for Neumann Monson Architects.

“We have grand aspirations for Neumann Monson’s future. It’s clear Tim’s capabilities and drive suit him and the firm well for the challenge to lead the team forward in achieving our ambitious goals. He’s been a part of the key decisions that got us here and we’re all confident he possesses exactly what we need to continue on this exciting path.” –Kevin Monson, Chairman of the Board

Tim started at Neumann Monson as a summer intern in 1991. From that time, the team has grown from seven employees to 50, the work has expanded in complexity and sophistication, and the firm’s growing reputation has placed Neumann Monson in a national spotlight. Since receiving its first American Institute of Architects (AIA) design award in 2003, Neumann Monson has received 41 more AIA honors for design, craft, and sustainability. Complimenting this, the firm received national recognition in 2016 and 2017 from PSMJ for its commitment to excellence in client satisfaction.

As an accomplished architect, nationally recognized for design and sustainability, Tim Schroeder has deepened his contributions to the profession by building mutually-meaningful partnerships, setting strategic directions for the firm, and harnessing its potential to improve regional urban life through community-minded architecture.

Though Tim has received many industry accolades, he feels his greatest achievement has been the development and support of the talented Neumann Monson team. Tim’s mission is to continue leading through supporting the success of his team in a culture of strong creative collaboration. He takes this very seriously. Within the past several years, Tim led a company-wide transformation to build quality and alignment in balance with the firm’s growth.

“I believe in building one, strong, unified team with shared values. It has been critical in our past success and I see it as the fuel that will propel us forward. The strength and values of our team drive uniquely positive experiences that our clients have come to expect from us.” –Tim Schroeder

As a reflection of the firm’s values, Neumann Monson earnestly believes in supporting the communities in which it serves. On the firm’s 40th birthday, the team launched 40Forward, a year-long community engagement initiative to give back through 40 acts of volunteering.
