I am driven by the possibility of making a difference in people’s lives. Whether that be through designing spaces to help people, connecting with someone day to day, or creating work that inspires new ideas or passions. I always try to consider who might be using the spaces I design and how they might benefit from them. Everyone has a different perspective on life because of their previous experiences and backgrounds, and I always try to consider how that might affect their experiences of the space I design.
I enjoy spending time outside, going on hikes, bike rides, and exploring new areas. I’m also an avid thrifter and vintage shopper. I love going out to thrift stores and estate sales to see what cool stuff I can find. When I’m not out and about, I love staying in and reading a book or working on my current knitting project!
The client offers a unique set of constraints, their desires and ideas for the design, that gives the architect something to build off of. These constraints are based on the clients’ needs and perception of the space, and they allow the architect to have a foundation for their design. Without these base constraints, every architect would be forced to begin with a project with nothing but a blank slate.
I’m a big reader. I’ve read all kinds of genres and books throughout my life, and they have affected the way I think. Books have taught me how to understand different perspectives and to always be curious about everything. Reading has really shaped the way I design, between understanding the theory behind design or just knowing how to empathize with someone different from me. It has been essential in developing how I think about and approach the world.
