Neumann Monson Architects received their third AIA COTE Top Ten Award for the Stanley Center for Peace and Security.

Neumann Monson Architects is thrilled to announce that at the national American Institute of Architects (AIA) conference in Boston, the Stanley Center for Peace and Security headquarters building received the 2025 AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE) Top Ten Award. The project was recognized for its innovative design and exceptional environmental performance, embodying the highest standards of sustainability and human-centered architecture.

This win marks Neumann Monson’s third AIA COTE Top Ten Award, placing the firm among an elite group of architecture practices that consistently lead in sustainable design. Previous honors include Market One in Des Moines (2021) and the Iowa City Public Works Facility (2022), both of which demonstrate the firm’s ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility and design excellence.

Only ten projects nationwide receive the COTE Top Ten Award each year. Presented by the American Institute of Architects, the program honors completed buildings that exemplify both design excellence and deep environmental performance across ten holistic measures—from energy and water use to community engagement and well-being. The award is widely considered the architecture profession’s highest recognition for sustainable design.

The Stanley Center for Peace and Security is a nonprofit organization working to catalyze global action that prevents the use of nuclear weapons, mitigates climate change, and elimination of mass violence and atrocities. Housed in a fully renovated former library, the building supports the Center’s mission by exemplifying how adaptive reuse and regenerative design can contribute to a more peaceful and sustainable world. “This achievement reflects our unwavering commitment to sustainability and design excellence,” said Tim Schroeder, President of Neumann Monson Architects. “We are proud to contribute to a more resilient and equitable built environment.”
