Today, we can finally announce some exciting news: Market One earned the COTE Top Ten Award. Each year, the Committee on the Environment (COTE), an American Institute of Architects (AIA) committee, recognizes ten projects from around the country for their commitment to sustainable design excellence. These projects are as beautiful as they are energy–efficient, and we are proud to say Market One has been recognized as such.

Market House is featured in the Spring 2021 issue of Iowa Architect Magazine (page 28). The article touches on the thoughtful contrasts of materiality that was used to create an exterior that is both different from its surroundings, but also complimentary. The five-story mixed-use building is located in the eclectic and historic Northside neighborhood of Iowa City and brings new prominence and vitality to a previously underutilized corner lot.

Wood Design & Building Magazine has recognized 111 E. Grand with a Wood Design & Building Award. The awards program is an opportunity to pay homage to design and construction teams that are embracing wood architecture as a solution to the many challenges that they are faced with – from environmental to urban density. Submissions were accepted from Canada, the United States, and internationally, adding value to the diversity of wood building application examples.

The University of Iowa Voxman School of Music was recognized with a 2020 AIA National Interior Architecture Award. The building was one of only seven projects located across the United States selected for the honor. The Interior Architecture program celebrates the most innovative interior spaces that make their mark on the cities, places, and spaces where we live and work. The five-member jury evaluated entries based on design achievement, including sense of place and purpose, ecology and environmental sustainability and history. Neumann Monson served as associate architect on the project, partnering with design architect LMN.

Congratulations to Neumann Monson architect Matt Krieger on being named a Corridor Business Journal Forty Under 40 honoree. For the 16th year running, the CBJ celebrated 40 of the Corridor’s most successful young professionals who have made a significant impact in their business and community. The 40 recipients were selected by a committee of previous honorees.

Congratulations to NM’ers Alyanna Subayno (and team) for placing 1st and Danny Cryer for placing 3rd in the AIA Iowa Emerging Professionals (EP) Competition! The EP Competition provides an opportunity for young professionals to share and receive exposure for a side project. Submissions may include built or unbuilt projects, design sketches, renderings, models, photography, painting, and video.

The Iowa City Public Works (ICPW) Phase I building has received an Excellence in Energy Efficient Design award through the Commercial New Construction (CNC) program offered by Alliant Energy and MidAmerican Energy Company in collaboration with energy design assistance provider Willdan. Participating building projects received a CNC program final verification report between July 1, 2019 and June 30, 2020. The top projects selected for an award had the highest kBTU savings percentage in Alliant Energy and MidAmerican’s Energy’s service territory.
